New churches are popping up all over India, with many of them using modern technology.
The New Delhi-based church-building startup Elevation Church has raised $1.7 million in funding to build a church in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
The company, which was founded by former Uber driver and engineer Anupam Bhattacharya, aims to convert existing churches into buildings with an elevator.
Elevation church has a website that describes the church as a “temporary, high-rise, open-air church that is completely sustainable.”
The new church will feature a new facade, and a roof-mounted, solar-powered roof.
“Our new church is a very unique church in India.
We have a new vision and we have a unique concept,” CEO Anupamsath Bhattacarya told Business Insider.
“We are a sustainable church with a different vision.”
The company is using technology to help the church convert to an elevator, but the company has a long way to go before it can be a mass-market success.
In India, there are only about 30 churches that have elevators, and they are usually installed by small-scale investors or other people who have a stake in the development of a church.
The average price for an elevator in India is about $200, according to a recent report from the Ministry of Urban Development.
Bhattachararya said he didn’t want to start a church that people would buy and sell.
“The church is not a business,” he told Business Wire.
“It is a social service.
I am a social entrepreneur.
We will do our best to build the church to the highest standards.”
He said he was confident that the church will succeed.
“This is our first time investing money into building a church,” he said.
“I believe that we have the ability to make this church successful.”
The church-builders have been working on building their building in Chennai, India for several years.
Bhattancharya said the company built its first elevator in 2014, and he expects to have a second one in 2019.
Bhatacharay said the building’s design will be a “small church,” but the church is also open to people.
“We have a lot of potential in building a high-quality church.
We want to build an open-ended church that will serve the people of India,” he added.
“But if we are building a building that will only be accessible by the clergy, it is not sustainable.”
